Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. * Tortoise hair accessories are 25% off if you purchase 2 or more. I'm pretty sure that's the correct info I read.

    * Out of case necklaces are 25% off, like the bow necklaces.

    * If you want to compare in-store vs online prices before going, check out the In-Store Price Guide.

    1. Me too. Bought two dresses and a sweater at Talbots for $35ish. Can't beat that. And they are all merino.... no acrylic/poly/viscose/mohair in sight!

  6. Probably not, but just went the other day. I posted pics today of the Jules Dress in Italian Paisley and Shawl-Collar Sweatshirt here.

  7. Yes, I have some returns from the 30% promo. Plus I would like to see if there are any boys coats yet in the crewcuts section. How is boys sizing in crewcuts? TTS compared to other brands?

    1. I find CC to run TTS to a little large. They had diamond quilted jackets and a couple of puffers out at my store last week...

I know. Talbots is amazing. Was in there last night and they had some beautiful pieces at fantastic prices!

  9. Hi Muffy! I think the sizing of Crewcuts depends on the kid. My son is a shrinky dink -- definitely small for his age, and he's skinny. I actually like Crewcuts for him because the cut of the clothing is slender. T-shirts from other brands tend to look boxy on him, so I adore Ts from Crewcuts because they are long and lean. He's 8, and wears a size 8. That being said, I think if your child is more of an average build, you can get away with sizing up in the shirts. I actually bought him one size 10 T-shirt this summer, and it looks like how a size 8 T-shirt from Gap or Old Navy would fit him. I think Gap clothing runs big, so in comparison Crewcuts runs TTS. If the item is something you want to last more than one season, I'd suggest sizing up. I've never purchased pants, though, so I can't comment on the sizing of bottoms -- just tops. HTH!

  11. I do not plan to go this weekend. I have a couple of items on the way, so I think I'll wait to get them before heading over to the mall next week (in case I need to return anything).

OT: There are a lot of new Promo-priced items (as well as some that have been marked down) for both the Women and Men. I have updated both lists:

    1. I just placed an order w/ that LE code, and I was given free shipping even though the total was only $33. Maybe because the pre-promo total was $54? Anyway, worth checkout it even if you don't plan to spend $50!

    2. I am loving LE this season. Esp the shoes, cashmere, and ponte dresses. There is a Professor-like tipped blazer that is adorable. You really can't go wrong with the 40% one item.

  14. Off-topic, but I recently bought my first pair of Minnie pants (the stretch twill kind) and absolutely love them. However, I did notice that they're dry clean only, which strikes me as being just a little excessive. Do any of you know if it's possible to get away with machine washing them instead?

    Thanks in advance!

  16. Probably not. Feeling terribly shopped out from the last round of promos, and truthfully, there's nothing in the current collection that is really grabbing me as a must-have at full price.

Off-topic, Anh of 9to5Chic.com attended the J. Crew Spring/Summer 2013 presentation and posted some close-up photos of the clothes on her blog today (link here. When I first saw the photos of the show, I wasn't hugely impressed, but now that I get to see some of the details up close, there's a few items that are definitely getting my attention - the oversize houndstooth skirt in pink and orange is really nice, and the slouchy white tee with the filigree blue and green floral embroidery is very reminiscent of Prada's spring 2012 collection.

    1. Another off-topic note: in case anyone missed it, I'm running a giveaway on my blog for a J. Crew gift set containing a J. Giveaway ends next Tuesday - please check it out!

  17. I wouldn't look to Talbot's for pricing expectations overall, as they are on the verge of bankruptcy. However good if you can take advantage while they're still around. I don't think they've really been able to find the balance between modern and matronly. They've had a few cute shoe styles but I haven't been able to partake because they are uncomfortable on me (very narrow).

I have a very quickly-shipped package of new JC arrivals coming today--the long sleeve tweed dress, the rush hour dress, and the leopard chiffon dress. I was able to use the 25% cardholder promo on these because I never got the email and they had to make a note on my account, so I just called as soon as the new arrivals were up on the site even though the promo had been expired by a few hours.
Will report back on the goodies.

    1. Yes talbots has some financial issues but I doubt they will ever close completely I also love their shoes because they run narrow!

    2. A big drain is said to be J. Jill. Perhaps they will shutter more stores or go online for J. Jill. Talbots has been very nimble and responsive to its customers and the market. I agree w/Genny that they will likely pull thru. We'll see.

      Delete
    3. I think Talbots is close to closing! They closed over 200 stores. In my opinion the clothes are matronly and I don't understand the "petite" sizing? I think Talbots got left behind a few years ago with their design and it attracts an older customer.

      Delete
    4. A business case I read about Talbots claimed that the company's "formal occasion" wear has maintained its share of the market, but their other lines, including "wear-to-work," did not transition well to the more casual workplace post-90's. It noted a generational difference in what women wear to work: baby boomers/early gen x vs. gen y/milennials.

      Delete
    5. I agree with Kelly, I ordered a cowlneck knit dress during the last promo and I can't believe how long the thing is, it arrives almost to my feet and I ordered a xsp size. It was a crazy $11 after all the discounts so I am not going to complain much but the botton line is I would never have bought it at fp or even 50% off.

  18. Stopped in to one of my local b&ms last night. The sale section was quite full, but no extra percentage off. The Wide leather belt was on sale for $29.99 (still full price of $68.00 on the web). They had the beautiful english saddle color and also a nice kelly green, both marked $29.99. I bought the english saddle belt and am wearing today. I like it so much I'm considering going back for the green one, too!

  19. I went to a Factory store yesterday. Pics coming after the weekend. Clearance was an addtl 30% off. Garments were sad, old, pitiful looking.

    Wool skimmers
Lined, fyi. Had to size up from 6 to 8. Love the black and plaid. The camel is dirty loooking. The bright dahlia not as rich in hue as retail. Didn't see peri.

    Silk blouse
Going off memory, but will temporarily say I LOVE this better than the retail Blythe. Will compare the two later. Cobalt blue is awesome.

    Leather clutch
A decent leather and was 40% off. I prefer the retail Invitation leather, but the cobalt blue can't be beat. Also does *not* have a strap in Factory version. Boo.

    Jackie style cardi
These are 100% cotton. Didn't get a solid color, but definitely sized M. I take S or M in retail Jackie. They had the polka dot ones in stock. So cute!

    Schoolboy
Not bad and I own one in grey, but would just prefer to save for the retail version. Esp the plaid one. Pass. Size 6 fit best.

    Polka dot capris
40% off. Navy w/small white dots. Very cute. Usual size 6.

Excursion vest, toothpick cords, toothpick jeans & downtown field
All items I feel are pretty good/pretty close to retail. Esp the cords & jeans. I swear they seem to make them better for factory.

  21. Muffy and Danielle -

The Crewcuts store that I frequent (Burlington MA) has some outerwear, but not full selection yet (80 degrees today).

I find that Crewcuts runs small. My average sized 9 year old girls wear 12's in girls sizes and 10's in boys sizes. Gap clothes fit them best in 10 girls and 8 boys.

  26. I was in the store yesterday, and saw a growing sale wall. But, the prices are still relatively high for the pieces they had. OT- I just put the link to the J Crew Spring 2013 runway collection here On Trend Orchids . I like to shop with an eye to matching things in the future-i.e. my merino Tippi looks like it will go with the soft icy pastels...

  27. I'm new here, so please don't shoot me for this question, but....do shoes EVER get a promo, or should I keep watching for them to go to sale? I don't think I can justify $250 for a pair of heels right now! Thanks!

    1. Hi Katie..Last year JC did a promo around late October of 30% off on purchase of $175+. I don't remember if it included 'Collection' items. Not sure if they'll be doing a promo like that this fall since they've been doing well financially as a company, in my opinion. I hope that isn't the case...
As far as shoes go. It depends what kind you like..there are some hot items that sell quick, may or may not be on back order. And some styles just doesn't sell that well, and would go on sale 3 months after.
You just have to keep checking online. That's what I do..or you can ask an online sales rep. Good luck!

    2. Thanks for the tips, JSR! I'll keep my eye on them before taking the plunge.

  28. I visited my B & M over lunch hour. I have a few general observations. First, you would think that they could at least steam the more expensive items. I tried on a couple of the school boy blazers and they looked so sad all crushed and wrinkled, all for the low low price of $230 CDN! Second, the price discrepencies are totally bizarre and inexplicable to me. For example, the merino tippi sweater in-store is $94.00 CDN but only $83.50 CDN on-line, but then if you apply the shipping fee that brings it up to the in-store price. Shopping at Jcrew can feel like a constant math problem! Also, I noticed that the toothpick ankle jeans are on sale online for $126.00 CDN but are full price at $150.00 CDN in store (so in that case, even with the shipping fee you would be better off buying online). To add to the calculation, I have a 20% off card for on-line purchases of $150 or more.

On the positive side, I tried on the Majesty Pea Coat in Navy and have to give full credit. The tailoring is very flattering! I think this may be where I will apply the 20% off promo.

  30. Went to my SF B&M today to return a skirt. There were some items I saw at the store that were not part of Wednesday's roll-out. A sequin tank in color block (i know color block again) it came in two colors, a cream/camel and a maroon/navy color. I saw also a cardigan with a hook/eye closure instead of button closure, in a black/dark camel color, it felt soft and thick. I think it was selling for $158? Last I noticed is these pretty chandelier earrings with crystals the same as the Crystal Cluster Necklace. I didn't check price. Nothing else stood out..pretty much the same stuff.

  31. I stopped by and tried on a few things. Review of Colorblock check mini and cashmere waffle colorblock HERE.

  33. Received my package yesterday from the 25% cardholder promo (still no 20% off card included in my box...darn). I ordered the wool-cashmere icon trench in cabernet (love!) and the t-strap everly pump in the silk foulard print (the product page for these seems to have disappeared from the site...).

The coat is a beautiful color (a bit more purple than it seems online, but very pretty) and the wool feels very soft. Does anyone know how well the wool/cashmere fabric wears? I have several double-cloth coats that still look new even after years of wear, but I'm a little concerned that the softness of the wool icon trench might lead to pilling...

    3. I am actually sitting out the 60 days with both the cab and the navy in the closet. I love the coat, obviously can't keep both, am probably going to keep the navy because it's a more timeless color, and yet there's something about the cab. Funny, though, to me the cab looked more brownish in real life than it did on the web. Would love suggestions.

    4. I have two wool-cashmere coats from all few seasons ago, one navy and one bright pink, and they have worn beautifully. No pilling, matting, or shiny elbows.

They look great, but my double-cloth coats look even better! I don't think you can go wrong with these fabrications.

      Delete
    5. Wellfedfred - that's funny, I was actually wishing it looked just a little more brownish irl! If you think the navy will have more longevity in your closet, that's definitely the color I would go with.

  37. I just came back from a peek at J Crew, and nothing jumped out at me. I was mildly intrigued by the Nora Cap toe Chain flats in Vintage Blush and wanted to try them on(they did not have my size. I have the Tippi cardigan in pink, and noticed that the Classic Merino Cardigan in pink was on the sale rack, along with another (I don't recall which one) pink sweater. I brought the 2 different Blush colorway shoes over, and was surprised that they were not the same color as any of the sweaters, nor were they even that close a shade. I don't necessarily need my clothes to match, but I thought the colors would be more similar.

I suspect we will see a sale promo soon. No FP merch really stood out. And I know I've said this before, but why in the world don't they steam the clothes?! Wrinkly messes everywhere!

Lastly, I did try on the wool herringbone schoolboy in gray. I liked it but the material felt so stiff, I worry it would look odd unbuttoned. Anyone have this blazer? Does it soften at all with wear?

    What I know:
    -it's 100% wool, fully lined

-they had it in teal and black
