"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. 1. I mentioned this last week but I want to make sure someone hears me at jcrew. I wish all the cute printed shorts would come in a length other than 3". My 13 year old size 00 daughter can wear them, likes them even shorter and looks great in them. Most of the rest of us, not so much.
    2. Why didn't they release the new cute wool tippis earlier in the season. January or February would have been better for those of us south of the Mason Dixon. We have a short spring where is seems to go from winter to summer overnight. I am waiting on them to be delivered and may have to return them because it is too hot already.

  2. Madewell vent here. I just called to get an adjustment on a backordered item that hasn't even shipped and they refused. Granted, I understand they are a business run by profit, but given that I had to jump through hoops to place the order, nobody at the store offered to place the order for me (and I had no idea they could!) and they referred me to the website where the same item was 3 times (!!!!) the price, I had to beg online CS to match the store price. Shopping shouldn't be this much work, and honestly, I am tempted to cancel my order. The item hasn't even shipped, so I don't understand why I can't just get the extra % added on to my order. Madewell vent over.

    1. Anthro Blogger: I would try calling back to speak with another CSR, and then to a manager if they do not agree to give you the PA. There is absolutely no good reason for you not to get it, plus they do it all the time at J.Crew, so Madewell should not be any different.

    2. FFM, thank you for your input. Actually, I did this before reading your comment (great minds think alike!) and got a supervisor that gave me the one time courtesy speech, we're going to note your account and never ever ever ever ever extend this courtesy to you ever again. I eventually got my PA after mentioning I was inclined to cancel my order (after her listing all the things they did for me, such as waive shipping on an order over $100, etc) but if there is something I hate more than not being able to get a PA, is getting the one time courtesy speech. I left kindergarten a while back, and I think even my parents didn't talk to me in that fashion past 5 years old. It's actually kind of hilarious when I think about it.

  3. I bought a pair of LILLIAN GLITTER LOW WEDGES and they were delivered yesterday. I really liked the design, but unfortunately, as I start walking, I found out that my achilles make contact with the back of the shoes which are also made with the glitter-coated canvas, and it was terribly painful! I went out anyway because I was late for my meeting, and ended up bleeding in the middle of the street.. It was such a nightmare on a beautiful sunny day! I can't believe I spent over 200 dollars for some cheap quality pair of shoes and I'm highly disappointed in J.Crew. They are definitely going back.

  4. Just FYI to all of you looking for the Punk Floral Silk Pants - they are starting to pop up on eBay - of course at prices higher than on the J Crew site (which are sold out). One person had 3 pair that they were selling at $549.99. Frustrating that 1 person has 3 pair while us loyal J Crewers couldn't even get 1. I am going to imagine that more will show up on eBay over the next several weeks so check there if you really want these pants.

  5. Received defective item. No longer available online. Did a We Will Find It. Well, I was told I would be charged the same online sale price I paid and I was charged full price. Called and was told it would be fixed. 7 business days later. Nothing credited on my card. Called again. Yes, nothing had been done but notes were there. Finally, got a call from the store it was sent from and they said they took care of price adjustment/refund. Sorry but I just don't have time for this multiple call to fix their problem thing. Shopping for me should be fun. Taking a break from J.Crew. Sad now that final sale is finally gone but I need to enjoy my summer and just wear my "old" clothing:)

  6. As someone else has mentioned, 3" inseam shorts. Ugh. As a tall girl in my late 30's, 5" is REALLY pushing it for me. 3" is a joke. Why are the cutest prints done in this length??

Also, piqued at the timing of some of their items. LOVE the eyelet sweatshirt, but living in the SE US, we will be in the 90's in a blink of an eye, which means I might get 2-3 wears out of it before Fall. Also ditto-ing someone's vent about merino tippis coming out this late in the season.

    That is all :)

    1. I don't understand why everyone is mad about the availability of 3-inch inseam shorts. J.Crew offers a very wide variety of inseams so you can pick the one right for you. I could see being mad if they offered only the shorter inseam lengths but they have other options. If you don't want them, then don't buy them. Very simple!

    2. It's true that the solid colour chino shorts come in a variety of inseams, which is great, but the vast majority of printed or novelty shorts only come in 3" (8/9 of the shorts under the "Novelty" heading right now on the website - the exception is the snakeskin collection bermuda shorts..). So if you're one of the many people who can't pull off a 3" inseam you are ruled out of most of the more interesting short options. I have to assume that the 3" inseam just sells way better than any of the longer options. I personally don't mind the 3" but I sympathize.

  7. Did anyone else receive the letter from Comenity- the bank that issues the J.Crew card? They are trying to make it more difficult for you to sue them and are requiring you to agree to arbitration rather than a jury trial. There are additional changes to the agreement that I find completely objectionable. I really wish that J.Crew would change companies. I'm thinking seriously of just cancelling the card. Comenity is sleazy.

  8. I miss the cute sundresses J Crew used to do so well--100% cotton, cotton lining, wear it with some capri sandals, throw a Jackie or a denim jacket in your bag and you're set for the whole day. I just bought a patchwork Talitha on ebay, with my eye on a few others. Last year they had some hits--loved the dizzy anchors dress. I'm hoping there will be a few in the next rollout.
