Friday Offer: 40% Off Summer Layers

"Thanks!" to many of you, including GigiOfCa (in this post), who let us know the following.

For today's "7 Days of Summer, 7 Days, 7 Sales" promotion... J.Crew is offering 40% off "Summer layers" for Women, Men, and Crewcuts using promo code FRIDAY. The fine print includes:

*Offer valid on purchases of select Summer Layers assortment styles at jcrew.com on July 12, 2013, 12:01am to 11:59pm ET only. Offer not valid in J.Crew or J.Crew Factory stores, Ludlow Shops or the 769 Madison Avenue store, at jcrewfactory.com or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. Offer not valid on third-party branded merchandise. To redeem, enter code FRIDAY in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promo code per order. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer are subject to change.
A lot of Collection Cashmere is on sale for this current promotion... Cashmere doesn't exactly scream "Summer staple" for me. In fact, I am surprised J.Crew did not offer their basic tees and tanks under this promotion. (Now that seems like a "Summer Layer" to me.)

The one item I think is a great Summer layering piece is the Linen-cotton pant (item 81326; $89.50) in Brilliant Cobalt. I must not be the only one thinking that, since it is already sold out in a lot of sizes (including mine). Ah well!

Will you be taking advantage of this latest promotion? What are your thoughts on this sale (7 days, 7 different sales)?

  1. I really wish they'd included free shipping on these 7 days specials. I'd order another long-sleeve stripe tee (with 3/4 sleeves, ha!) but I don't want it enough to pay $8.95 shipping on it.

  2. I picked up another long sleeve stripe pocket tee in coral, I have it in navy and have been wearing it constantly. I also finally got the maritime blazer in vanilla (I was happy this was included in the 40% off). I was tempted by the linen dot baseball tee but decided to hold off since I bet this will make it to sale. I also found the liberty tresco floral skirt in pop back which I'm thrilled about! I wish the Nolita denim jacket would have been included in the 40% off, I love it but can't bring myself to fork out $128 on a denim jacket.

    1. Erika, I felt the same way. After purchasing with 30% off, then returning the Nolita I started to troll Ebay, after researching all the retail style #s. I finally picked up a beautiful J Crew denim jacket from Spring, 2004 for $12.99. It is amazing quality, a little longer than current style, side pockets in a medium denim looks just like current Nolita.

    2. I'm definitely going to check out Ebay! Thanks for the tip :)

  3. Alexis, I've been living in my cobalt linen-cotton pants this summer. Bought them on a whim during a store visit, and absolutely fell in love with them much to my surprise.

Silver_lining, totally agree with you on the free shipping. I would have bought several pieces over the course of this week if they had.

    1. Not sure if these are the same pants I saw at my B&M (Park Meadows, CO). They seemed much brighter IRL than the photo online. Did not notice price but lots of pairs. HTH

    2. I have the linen-cotton pants in cobalt but haven't worn them yet (tags on but too late to return). If anyone needs size 2, let me know!

    3. Alexis, My SA was wearing the pants today, and they were very slimming on.

  4. They must have a new marketing director at JC.

I agree, the Linen-Cotton pants are really great. See the IRL photos here.

  5. Despite feeling way off-season, this FRIDAY sale is a great opportunity to stock up on cashmere sweaters in black, snow, navy, gray, etc. Those basic colors rarely ever hit FS + 30% off, and the sitewide discount promos usually don't drop below 25% off.

    1. I agree Whitney! They really don't hit sale often, and will all be full price for fall probably from now on. This past year I have had good luck with their cashmere.

    2. So true, Whitney and shopwithm...I picked up both the black and hthr dusk in the boyfriend cashmere. I...I have never seen the black make it to a FS and I wear the cashmere boyfriend year round...thrilled to have both colors coming my way. :)

  7. There was a big sale update overnite, up to 1000+ items. If you ordered any of the odd popbacks, check those pockets for tissues. And money! lol New cuts at the top of the Irl Pic Guide - Sale.

  8. Nothing for me with this promo. I did stop by the J.Crew in Tampa today though, and as I mentioned in the seek & find thread, it seemed as if almost the entire store was on sale with an extra 40% off. There seemed to be a lot of size 10's and 4's on the racks, so if you are looking for something in that size it is probably worth a call. I did notice 2 blue tartine satchels near the dressing rooms if you're looking for one. They were $229.99 plus 40% off.

Also, the store is going to be closed from the 15-18th for renovations, so if you are planning a trip there either go before or after those dates.

For those interested, there were several new promo-priced items, as well as numerous markdowns today. I have them noted in this post on my blog. Enjoy the rest of your day! :)

  9. I snagged these pants on sale yesterday! They were $59.99- 40% off plus my 15% educator discount. I was super happy with my purchase. I tried them on last month, but was too cheap to pay full price for them.

  10. I used the Friday promo to pick up another pair of JCrew Signature Leggings. I've been wearing one pair for a w/o class, twice a week, for over five months (even started putting them in the dryer, which I never do to my clothes), and they've held up like a dream.

    1. So glad to hear you like them -- I ordered the gray pair to try out. I'm always looking for a nicer quality pair, so hopefully these work out well!

  12. I decided to grab a navy cashmere cardigan. I need it for a dress, and for a little over $100, I think it's a great deal. I would've preferred the featherweight cashmere cardi, but it's sold out online and I doubt there are any out there. If anyone sees a navy featherweight cashmere cardi in sz. S at their store, pls let me know. Thanks!!
