JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

    Best part:

The schizophrenic tension between being a runway sensation and meeting everyday needs was illustrated last week when J. Crew served doughnuts in honor of National Doughnut Day along with a 40 percent off sale. Fashion mavens do not eat doughnuts.

    1. Those are really interesting reads.

What I've felt recently when I shop at J Crew, is that the variety they are offering is showing up in the wrong form. Lots of new silhouettes, but nothing that feels like it's been invested in very heavily from a design perspective. For example, I love the drapey pull on ikat pants from this season. I would buy one or two more prints or colors if they were offered, but they are not. Similarly, I would have loved to see more printed classic slim trousers (a proven silhouette for J Crew), but there is only one option on the floor right now, in jacquard. Ditto for chino shorts....such a proven silhouette, how come they aren't available in fun prints? If I want a fun print, I have to choose a "novelty" style that is less likely to coordinate with the many seasons of J Crew basics l still wear and love.

I am a designer in the same mass-market world as J Crew, and what I hear all the time from Sales is "Make it the same, but different. " I feel like at J Crew right now, I'm forced to choose between too-same (beige chino shorts....Tippis in colors too close to the 15 I already own, LOL) or too-different (elastic-waisted drapey bottoms that would require me to invest in a whole bunch of lightweight tuck-inable tops, which J Crew isn't even offering many of....)

      This is rambling, sorry :-)

  3. Interesting, thanks for posting these. I've certainly bought more from the Factory this year than in the past.

I posted styling ideas for a couple of the new to my closet Factory items here and here.

  4. Are they designer donuts? Do they have sequins or French phrases on top? :)

  5. Review here of the pleated back tee, which nets $16 with SHOPSALE.

  6. some outfit ideas sing mostly old items on my blog. I just used my rewards for the midnight floral cocoon but now am not sure how to pair it due to the colors...I don't want the usual black and a white skirt may not be so great, any suggestion on other colors to pair the print with?

    1. I think it would look great with navy or some other deep, rich blue. Tried that top on today, love the colors!
