J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hi all,
    Can anyone tell me about the fit of the Collection Painterly Floral dress? I got one at a pretty good price on pop-back but it has not arrived yet. I'm concerned that I needed to size up (had it been available) though. Any feedback about fit, etc etc and thoughts about it, please do let me know. I would really appreciate it. Also, I think it came out in the fall, but is it a dress I might be able to wear into spring and summer? Thanks so much for any help :/)

    1. Hi! I did not have or try on this dress specifically, but I have had/tried on the Collection pieces in the stiffer fabrics like silk/wool. I personally do not have to size up, but I think it depends on how you size yourself. I think if your someone who sizes down often, when the fabric allows, you might have to size up. If you consider yourself between sizes, you might have to size up. I think though if you feel solid and consistent in a size, then no. Of course YMMV and body type also plays a role.

      I don't think it's the actual garment that is running small, at least not in the Collection pieces in silk/wool I've tried. It's more that the fabric has a lot less give.

    2. I haven't tried the dress but I do have the pants -- but, as far as sizing in items with this silk/wool fabric, I agree with Jessica that the issue is that the fabric has no give to it. I took the larger of my two sizes at J. Crew and the pants fit perfectly but left absolutely no room for holiday treats. The fabric and print is absolutely gorgeous. I found the pink to pop more IRL than on the website and I think the colors overall will work beautifully for spring.

  3. Received the wool Melton military coat with faux fur collar in navy yesterday - jumped on it while on popback at 50% off! Have to agree with Melissa... I LOVE it! Yes, it's not at all nipped in at the waist but it a-lines out at the bottom which is very flattering. I am usually a size 0 in perfect shirts and 1035 Blazers, but I usually size up to 4 in coats as I usually wear a blazer underneath and want to make sure the shoulders fit. It does! The fur collars looks luxe while the navy imparts a Brooks Brothers type preppy, proper look, very appropriate for my work attire. Highly recommended!! (Thanks Melissa for your blog review... That's what made me bite the bullet! :) )

  4. I placed an order on the 29th for a few sweaters...one which arrived in a few days, the other...still waiting. The sweater I did receive was the Fair Isle Classic Turtleneck Sweater. As I posted in another thread, I took the larger of my two sweater sizes in this sweater - the turtleneck is fitted, the body slightly loose and it is a shorter sweater (I'm 5'7" and needed a tank underneath). I posted a small review and some photos on my blog here

    Aside from that, the only other purchase this week was a bunch of crewcuts for my niece - waiting to see when the sale flips to 50%.

  5. Some nice additions to Sale this morning, including my favorite sweater from last year, Collection cashmere waffle henley sweater item #36811. I bought 3 in grey, navy and white and wore them last winter weekly, and I did not have a problem with them pilling or getting fuzzy. The waffle weave makes the cashmere thicker, they are softer because of it and they keep their shape nicely. I love the cut....longer in the torso, a bit slouchy in the body but slimming in the hips. Somehow very feminine. Again, one of my favorite sweaters and cut, and wish they mimicked the proportions for many other sweaters!

  7. As blakemdjohns pointed out in another thread, the metallic tweed blazer is now $139.99. I reviewed it & the lace shoulder top (all colors are now $59.99) in this post.

  8. Can anyone tell me about the fit of the double serge midi skirt? I just ordered one and I'm near the top end of the size spectrum. My wool zip skirt fits perfectly, but I've read that the midi skirt runs small.

  9. I finally bought a Cocoon coat this year after wanting one for a while. I was hoping to get it after the holidays on sale but my size in the sandstone sold out early for Canada. I picked it up a few weeks ago and finally started wearing it. I find it quite warm and comfortable except when I sit with it zipped up (ie when driving) it's tight on my throat so I have to unzip it a bit. Luckily my double zipper has been smooth so far but some I tried in store were hard to zip up. I sized down to a zero where I normally take a size 4 in coats at jcrew and it's still roomy enough on me. Overall I'm very happy with it I just hope it holds up well.

  10. Finally received the Double cloth collarless coat in antique white, which I ordered on Christmas Day. Wanted to replace a similar length and color Banana coat which, after 13 years, developed a moth hole and looked a little worse for the wear. I took my blazer size, where I usually size up one. Fit is perfect, however, the coat is really lightweight. I don't even think I can call it a coat. It's also all wrinkled, which seems to be the way things arrive these days. Zipper is very smooth. I paid a fair price (same as it is now, @ $168) but I'm not sure it will serve much of a purpose at this weight. I wonder how it compares to the Regent topcoat.
